Major Rusty Bradley at MRES talking with studentsMajor Rusty Bradley, a North Carolina native, an author, and an Army Veteran visited our fourth and fifth-grade students on Monday. Students listened to Major Bradley talk about determination, and one of the most important things: respect. Our Longhorns also had a chance to ask Major Bradley questions about what it is like deploying and the children in Afghanistan.

Thank you again to Major Bradley for visiting MRES!

Reading a book to students. Reading a book to students.

Mr. McLamb and Mrs. Hyde took the National Young Readers Week principal challenge and read to all of the classrooms at MRES. They dressed up as Pete the Cat, and Pippi Longstockings which made the students smile and giggle. The challenge was not only to inspire young readers but to also help win all our students a Kate DiCamillo book to take home during winter break.

The students of Rockfish Elementary and Morganton Road Elementary are joining together to help students at St. Pauls Elementary School in neighboring Robeson County.  Hurricane Matthew caused flood damage and loss to the school, as well as many of the students’ homes.  In an effort to assist these students, our schools are coming together to conduct a school supply drive.  We are asking students at each grade level to bring designated items listed below.

MRES as well as Rockfish Elementary did an amazing job collecting supplies to help St. Pauls Elementary school.

Fifth Grade Students Mixing In The Ingredients to Make Ice Cream Sean shows off his finished product! As the fifth grade students have been learning about the phase changes of matter in Ms. Williams’ science class, they went outside to discover first hand the physical change of making ice cream.

The students had a great time pouring in their ingredients: orange soda, water, and condensed milk. They each were given a Ziploc bag, ice, and the result of the ingredients mixture. Then, it was time for the kids to shake it out to make their final result! They enjoyed eating the yummy treat.
